We always stop to view whales and icebergs
stop to view whales and icebergs

I have just returned home from completing your company’s Viking Trail tour. This was without a doubt the best tour I have ever taken. From seeing a trilobite on the first day, to hiking the Green Gardens, to the archaeological sites of Red Bay, L’Anse aux Meadows and Port au Choix, to the fossil strewn beach at Green Point, as well as a tour of the Bay of Islands, and everything in between was much more than I had expected. The small group size really allows an individual to experience more than they would with one of the larger tour operators. “

Thanks for another wonderful trip to Newfoundland.  Darrell was an informative and gracious host and your province is just lovely.  By the way, where do you find the interesting, lively guests that take your tours?
We have been so fortunate both times to be with great people.

Dear Ann,

We are finally back in sunny Grenada and I am compelled to write and thank you for a truly superb trip around Newfoundland and Labrador. What an amazing place; kind, proud and funny people, astounding geology, amazing wildlife and so much history!

Jared and Mark were outstanding guides; good-humored, incredibly knowledgeable and stimulating company throughout our trip. Please convey our thanks to them both. Our 2 drivers also did a great job. We got the impression they were enjoying the tour as much as we were!

We really appreciate your organisation efforts. The whole trip was so smooth, particularly the transfer from south to north. Your suggestion for a hotel nearer the airport for the last evening was spot on and worked perfectly; we enjoyed a really relaxing day and supper in Corner Brook (if you call ziplining relaxing!!)

A heartfelt thank you for our memorable trip.

Kindest regards,
Helen

Hello Ann,
We met briefly when you boarded our coach in St Johns, with the whale baleen! We went on the recent Newfoundland Adventures trip (starting 14 June) and wanted to feedback what a great experience it was. The tour went without a hitch, was well organised and included everything described in the itinerary. What was not anticipated was that we would have such a great tour leader in Jared Clarke.

Jared had great material to work with, the beauty of Newfoundland, but his knowledge and passion for the natural world in his home country, made the tour really special. It was a privilege to accompany someone with such wide knowledge of flora, fauna, butterflies, wildlife in general and especially the birds. His historical knowledge was a real plus for those of us with little knowledge of Newfoundland. We also benefited from some great places to  eat and stay, especially the Round da Bay Inn and Bonavista Social Club!.

Jared has a very relaxed and comfortable style and managed the sometimes difficult aspects of having a mixed tour group. We will definitely recommend Wildland Tours, and we plan to return in the near future to tour other areas in this part of the world.

Best wishes
Chris & Deirdre

Hi Ann,

I was good to meet you this time and I apologize for not writing earlier.  Once again we had an enjoyable trip.  Jared was a knowledgeable and accommodating leader, as well as a safe driver.

For us the most memorable aspects of the trip were Ferryland (including the impromptu whale show), the trip in the zodiacs (shame on me but I have forgotten where - was it Trinity?), Placentia, and Round da Bay Inn (the owners deserve all the success in the world for all they have put into the place).

We both enjoyed St Johns, and were impressed by the cultural scene. We liked the range of restaurants and got to taste, Get Stuffed, Saltwater, Gypsy Tea Room and Olivers.  The last was our favourite and we were devastated that they were fully booked the second time we tried.

I’d like to say that we will be back next year but we seem to have exhausted your trips (except for whale watching week which is too narrowly focused for us) but we will certainly recommend you to anyone else who might be considering a trip to Newfoundland.

Cheers,
Barry and Christine

Hi , I just wanted to let you all know at Wildlands what an absolutely amazing trip we had on our July 13-20 Newfoundland Adventure Tour with Darrell Penney. We saw some amazing sights and had once in a life time experiences as we viewed whales from a zodiac with Chris (he was terrific too), watched puffins run along the water trying to take off, gannets floating on air through the fog, and moose giving us puzzled looks as we slowed down to observe them.  The historical parts of the tour were equally interesting and awe inspiring as well as we learned about the challenges and disasters associated with fishing and sealing and the tremendous loss of life through various war efforts. But I have to say, that perhaps the most rewarding and unforgettable part of the last week was our guide Darrell. He made us all feel like family and got to know us each one of us and what we would like to see and do. He would chat with each one of us one on one as we drove and walked along, and during meals. He shared with us his own personal experiences growing up in Newfoundland as well as those of others he knew of or from stories passed down. His personal stories and sense of humour made the trip an exceptional one, beyond simply viewing some historical sites and observing nature. He made us feel welcome and like one of the family (and he already has a very large family!). He also connected with everyone we stopped to meet along the way, be it a hotel owner, chef or zodiac driver. Everyone greeted Darrell with smiles, handshakes or hugs and their enthusiasm in welcoming him seemed to transfer to us. I just wanted to let you know what a terrific time I had and what an amazing guide Darrell is. If I can make it back to Newfoundland (and I hope I can), I’ll definitely take another tour with Wildlands and hope that I’ll be fortunate enough to be able to share it with Darrell. Thank you so much for such a great trip and experience, Jean

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday? Close up views of the icebergs and lots of encounters with humpback whales. It was fascinating to see the Caplin rolling on the beaches. 2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday? Make sure you have warm clothing as well as cool  clothing , the weather can be unpredictable .  3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation? We stayed a small hotels run by locals and ate at very interesting local restaurants.  The driver and the guide were genuine Newfoundlanders so they knew all the best places to go.  4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall? It was a great experience.  There was more driving than we expected but we covered lots of wildlife hot spots and historical places. We really enjoyed the company of our fellow travellers who came from the UK, USA Belgium and Australia.  We all got on well and this helped to enhance the holiday. Jared (the guide) was very helpful and the itinerary was flexible enough to take account of  different interests and the weather. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall? ****  Some wonderful memories, I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend

Dear Ann,

I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the Newfoundland adventure tour.  Our tour leader, Stewart Cochrane, was an excellent source of information and he ensured that everything went according to plan. As a nature lover, and keen photographer, this tour ticked all the right boxes, so much so, that I am considering another tour with you for next year. All the accommodation was comfortable, but the Round da Bay Inn was exceptional, with its themed rooms, great hosts, and superb cooking,(to be highly recommended).

Many thanks to yourself, Stewart, and Dave,(for his imput on the first day).

Regards to all,
Jean Pretty.

To everyone at Wildland Tours,   I would just like to tell you how impressed I am with your company and the employees.  I had one of the best vacations ever and a lot of it had to do with Wildland Tours.   Being met at the airport made arrival to NFLD so easy and our tour leader, Carolyn, was outstanding.  Not only is she very knowledgeable in many ways, she went out of her way to make the tour enjoyable.  My experience from beginning to end was wonderful and Newfoundland is so beautiful it took my breath away.   I will highly recommend your company to anyone I know that is considering a trip to Newfoundland.  I certainly plan on a return visit.   Thank you again, Bonnie

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday? Where to start? Could it be the close encounters with puffins? Or the white beaked dolphins playing with a humpback whale calf? The spotting of an Osprey nest on top of the telegraph pole? Moose spotting? Trying to find the lighthouse on Care Spear (fog!)Or the tour leader singing local balads whilst travelling to our next wildlife encounter? Or being ‘screeched in’ in St. John’s memorial park? …most memorable? ALL OF IT! 2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday? Remember NewfoundLAND is vast! Do not underestimate the distances between places you visit. 3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation? Yes - we went out with local boat-tour operators, ate in local (and special) places that were off the beaten track. Identification of whale flukes - a mother was spoted with a calf - adult last seen in 2004, and now returned with a calf, great to have this local knowledge and help with whale recognistion and recording. 4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall? Fabulous…what I expected and more. Please visit NewfoundLAND and use Wildland Tours. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall? ****  Some wonderful memories, I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend
